Stay tuned for the discussion at the book club meeting last night at Cherry's place on Children's House and Everywhere I go. In the meantime here is the list of books/films from last nights chatter, for those looking for a book to read/film to see:
Books
Drive your plow over the bones of the dead by Olga Tokarczuk (also wrote Flights but read Plow first, says Cherry)
Telex from Cuba by Rachel Kushner (about colonial times in Cuba)
The Overstory by Richard Powers (people's stories and their connection to trees and the story of trees; long read but worth it)
The Only Story by Julian Barnes (don't be put off by the short summary - a young man's affair/life with a much older woman)
Old Films:
Russia House (1990) with Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer - could be the film Barb remembered, but may not be!
Monkey Grip (1982) with None Hazelhurst and Colin Friels. Based on the book by Helen Garner about 1970's life in seedy inner Melbourne - and spoiler alert for drug warning.
Next meeting is at Kathy's place on Wednesday 10 July at 7.00 pm. Book choices are
Kathy: 'Brother of the more famous Jack' by Barbara Trapido
Megan: to be advised
